After a long delay, the 220 MHz repeater is back on the air. Damaged feedline caused the PA in the repeater to fail for the second time so a more robust solution was sought. The ERA group had some Tait radios available so Jon VA3RQ configured a pair as a repeater and brought it up to the site. The antenna feedline was found to still be bad so it was not put on the air at that time. We managed to get the feedline replaced coming down the tower but the link from the tower to the equipment was still needed. After some searching a length of hardline and connectors was acquired to finish the run. A group of very dedicated amateurs braved the cold in mid January to complete the hookup. The antenna was swept and all in order so the transmitter was enabled and the controller configured. IRLP was down due to a failure in the processor that handles the IRLP interface. It is back up and operating even better than before.

It is with sadness I report that Len passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2021.  He will be missed by family and friends.  

Len Morris passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the age of 75 years.  Len, beloved husband of Marilyn for 56 years.  Loving father of Steven (Bonny), Robin predeceased, Andrew (Angela) and Jonathon (Dora lynn). Len has been a Cherished grandfather of Kennedy and Rachel.  Len was predeceased by his parents Bill & Bernice Morris and a brother Ken.  Survived by his sister-in-law Marg and her sons Shannon, Luke and their families.  As per Len's wishes cremation has taken place.  If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.mundellfuneralhome.com.       "A Final 73 from VE3FJB / VA3LM

On October 14 2021 the riggers came off the tower and all systems were reverted to their pr-existing connections.  All systems came up properly and should be operational.  

The PA for the VHF1 repeater was showing some degradation so it was replaced and will be looked at with a view to repairing or replacing it.  The UHF link to the Huntsville repeaters at the VE3MUS system was taken out of service and we will look at a new way to connect to VE3MUS in an emergency.  That frequency is not longer in service so we will find another way to do it.

During the shutdown we took the opportunity to move some of the components in the racks and clean up the wiring.  There is still room for improvement but it is much better than it was.

On Tuesday October 12 at approximately 09:00am most of the repeaters at the LSRA site will be shut down to allow for new antennas and feedline to be installed on the tower.

At this point we plan to leave 6m and 220 MHz on for most of the time but we also plan to take advantage of this shutdown to re-work some of the networking at the site so you can expect everything to be off for some of the time.  

The work being done should be an advantage to us in that our overall signals, both receive and transmit should be increased.  Locally we may not see much of an improvement but those accessing the repeater from a distance may show an improved signal.  

There will be quite a crew on the tower so we ask that you not use this time for a site visit.  It will be crowded.
